Just 3 1/2 from Houston, makes it a great mini-vacation spot. It's also just a short drive into Austin, The "Live Music Capital of the World," Just hit the places on 6th Street. There are so many nooks and crannies on that lake. Volenta, Pace Bend Park, Lakeway, and many more. I like Pace Bend Park, because you can drive onto the flats, right up to the water and there are camping spaces there as well. Also, there are cliffs to jump off and they can get pretty high at times with no rain. Lots of fun. I spent every weekend there in the summers out of college. I would contact the local chamber office for more details or Texas Parks and Wildlife about Pace Bend Park. It's not expensive to camp or rent a little cabin and the party scene is great as well. The water is clear and there are nice people around. If you don't know someone with a house there, there are plenty of nice camping sites.
